Vapour Trails Direct – the company started in 2005 by applying to the Civil Aviation Authority in the United Kingdom for an Air Travel Operators Licence (ATOL). The application for an ATOL licence is a United Kingdom legal requirement for any company that wishes to offer package tours to the general public which includes a flight. Vapour Trails Direct started when the low cost airlines started to operate routes from regional airports to European destinations, in particular Rome. There is no doubt that the low cost airlines opened up these European destinations to many people who previously found air travel too expensive. With Rome in mind, it was apparent that it was now much more affordable to get to Rome and see the sites of the Eternal City, in particular the cities religious inheritance. One may ask “Why the religious inheritance of Rome?”. Quite simply, people who we knew who would love to have gone there in both the present and the past, but could not due to cost. So after receiving our ATOL license from The Civil Aviation Authority, Vapour Trails Direct began selling “Pilgrimage” tours initially to Rome, then to other destinations, such as Lourdes, Fatima, etc. What is Our Business Model? Vapour Trails Direct sells its tours on “Value for Money”. We have all heard that “you get what you pay for”, in other words if you want something good you have to pay for it, which is still true today. However, the variable in the total package tour cost is not only the cost of putting the tour together, such as the flight costs, etc., but also the overhead that is applied by individual companies to cover their overhead costs. Our aim as a company is to keep our overhead costs low, without affecting the overall quality of the tour, i.e. keep the quality of the tour high. As a company we can always compete on cost, but we can tell you that cost comes down to a few simple factors, i.e. what hotel you are going to use and the margin required by companies to run their business and make a profit.
